Natural Variations: Due to the natural characteristics of marble, expect variations in color, pattern, texture, and veining.
Pre-installation Inspection: Before installation, check all tiles for any defects or damage like chipped edges or broken pieces. No adjustments or services will be offered after installation begins.
Installation Instructions
Dry-Fit First: Practice laying out the pattern before applying mortar. This helps visualize the final look and manage tile variations.
Thinset Mortar:
Use white thinset mortar to avoid color changes in the tile.
For faster work, use a rapid curing thinset.
Adhesive Application:
Apply only as much adhesive as can be covered within 10-15 minutes.
Ensure grout joints are at least 1/16” wide.
Use a 3/16" or 1/4" square notch trowel.
Use the flat side of the trowel to smooth ridges before laying the tile.
Grouting Guidelines
Use non-sanded grout to avoid scratching the stone.
Test a small area before full application to ensure the stone won’t scratch.
Fill grout joints completely and clean off excess grout as you go. Don’t let grout harden fully before cleaning.
Grout haze should never be cleaned with acids.
Smooth out grout joints with a damp sponge during final cleaning.
Apply grout release before grouting to ease cleaning and protect from grout stains.
Sealing
After installation and grouting, apply a high-quality breathable stone sealer to protect against water absorption, efflorescence, and stains.
For enhanced color, a color enhancer can be applied after grouting.
Re-seal as needed, especially if the stone darkens over time.
Cutting
Use a wet-saw with a continuous rim diamond blade designed for marble to get a clean cut.
Avoid using “turbo” or notched blades, as they can chip the edges of the marble.
Care and Maintenance
Clean with a neutral cleaner, stone soap, or mild dishwashing detergent mixed with warm water.
Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth to avoid streaks.
Avoid acidic cleaners (like those with lemon or vinegar) and abrasive cleaning products when cleaning marble or limestone.
