Material Inspection

• Natural Variations: Expect color, pattern, texture, and veining differences in natural stones.
• Pre-Installation Check: Inspect for defects such as chipped edges or broken pieces before installation. No adjustments or service will be provided after installation begins.

Installation

• Dry-Fit First: Lay out the pattern before installation to visualize the cuts and placement, especially for tiles with variation.
• Mortar Choice: Use white thinset mortar to avoid affecting the tile's color. For faster installation, choose rapid curing thinset mortar.
• Application:
  • Only apply enough adhesive to cover what can be tiled in 10-15 minutes.
  • Grout joints should be at least 1/16", not butt set.
  • Use a 3/16" or 1/4" square notch trowel for marble installation.
  • Smooth ridges in the mortar bed with the flat side of the trowel before placing tiles.

Grouting

• Grout Type: Use non-sanded grout to prevent scratching on natural stone.
• Test First: Always test grout in a small area to ensure it doesn’t scratch the stone.
• Packing and Cleaning: Ensure grout joints are packed fully, and clean excess grout before it hardens.
• Cleaning: Never use acids to clean grout haze. Use a damp sponge for final cleaning and joint smoothing.
• Grout Release: Apply grout release before grouting to protect the stone from staining, especially with contrasting grout colors.

Sealing

• After installation and grouting, seal the stone with a high-quality breathable sealer to protect against water absorption, efflorescence, and staining.
• Optional Enhancer: Apply a color enhancer to bring out the stone’s true color, if desired, after grouting.
• Reseal: Reseal when the stone darkens or as needed over time.

Cutting

• Tool Recommendation: Use a wet-saw with a continuous rim diamond blade designed specifically for marble to avoid chipping.
• Blade Choice: Do not use turbo or notched blades meant for ceramic or porcelain as these can cause coarse cuts and heavy chipping.

Care and Maintenance

• Cleaning:
  • Use a neutral cleaner, stone soap, or mild dishwashing detergent with warm water for regular cleaning.
  • Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth to avoid streaks or film.
• Avoid Acids: When cleaning marble or limestone, avoid cleaners containing lemon, vinegar, or other acids, as they can damage the stone.
• No Abrasives: Never use abrasive cleaners, which can scratch or dull the surface.
